Otto's Weird Music Thread

Another "Oldie" - The Firm's "Star Trekkin". Couple of things about this one:

  • This WAS the official video. They were asked to do a live performance of the song, they sent this instead.
  • It was a group of male, middle aged, balding musicians and they thought a live appearance would kill the momentum of the song
Wikipedia entry on the subject is here
BTW - there was a "Supergroup" named "The Firm" that was founded in 1984. This ain't them.

Ok, I'm joining in. :P One of my favorites wierd AI music is this one.
Oof, so checking out other info on Youtube you can apparently get AI to generate music, then load in some text, and have AI generate the vocals to the music. And of course while you are at it, have AI generate the short film clips for the video.

Rut Roh

That's just too stinking good.

Lolwut... Okay

Anyway, you like weird music? May I introduce you to Soap&Skin? Every piece from her is one cosmic-level hyperdimensional acid trip (while also being genuinely good music)

Yep, that's suitably freaky. I recognize some of that footage, it was quite iconic. Needless to say that piece is not an essay in optimism.

Here's another one of Jean Michel Jarre's from the late 70's.... If you are a fan of early synthesised electro-music then you will love this...

I got to share this channel. if anyone loves 60s music, this is a great set.
A whole channel of AI music. Didn't take long ;) Also we still seem to be using the latest technology to create smut. *Looks around site* Never mind

I subscribed to the channel, but aside from the raunchy lyrics, yeah, it's a lot of genera copying, and pretty impressive given how much they've generated, but that seems par for the course with AI. What is is though, aside from the smut lyrics, is mediocre music. It isn't intended to be more. There aren't any musical hooks in it, there couldn't be. Here's a hard rock edition:

And a Dr Hook song on the subject back in the days when filtering a mike meant throwing a handkerchief over it.

There isn't any question that AI music is going to raise the bar for least expectations, but at least at this point, I can't see it causing problems for high end musicians. We'll see where it ends up.
