Meta’s Latest AI Gamble: Building Two Massive Data Centres to Achieve Superintelligence

From Meta, a company we all know is at the apex of misuse of customer information, is planning to build a couple of really massive datacenters for its AI work. From the description, not only will these little dears be able to take your job, but they will also use all the available water and electricity! What fun. I might have to watch Tank Girl again.

Sometimes I fear we really are developing towards my Industrial Empire future…. Well, could also be Idiocracy. Look at Germany: A Blackrock lobbyist as Kanzler, a Nestle lobbyist as President of the Bundestag, a EON lobbyist as Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy… guess the final result will be an Industrial Idiocracy. Thinking about it, sounds like a idea for a comic :)

An other option would be the summary some US guy gave after visiting China: “China is developing towards some kind of Star Trek society while the USA are developing towards a Mad Max society.”

That leaves me wondering whether I'd rather wear a spandex pajamas or re-purposed football shoulder pads. :P

What's wrong with Mad Max society? You get to drive all sorts of really fast vehicles over all sorts of dusty terrain!

Socialism and communism share a lot of the same traits. The Star Trek society is more like socialism where most of your needs are provided for , but you still control your life (Canada). mad max would be like Authoritarianism or Communism, where most of your needs are provided for, yet you have very little to no control of your life, (N Korea). LOL

There are a couple of channels i follow from non Chinese people that lived there for quite a few years and are married to Chinese and have Chinese relatives still there and they debunk a lot of so called Chinese advances and point out how much of their tech was just stolen and re engineered.

I like to be different. I wear my re-purposed football shoulderpads over my spandex pajamas. I'm known as DorkMan in the comics:ROFLMAO:
LMAO, that was good!

Honestly, as much as i love AI, it scares the crap out of me. I feel so many tech companies are so focused on being first and making the money they can't see any end results, like AI taking over. it boggles my mind how people can think they can control something that is smarter faster and more efficient than they are. One day soon someone's AI is going to become sentient and they won't be able to shut it off (like what happened at google already)

They'll probably figure it out when the first AI CEO is put in place :sneaky:

I think I remember reading somewhere on Instagram that AI was supposed to focus on making our everyday life easier so we can concentrate on expanding our creativity. Instead, it’s taken over the creative side of life and left us to work harder on everyday chores. 😳

I personally feel it has made me as much if not more creative. I don't just type in some words and hit generate, there is so much more to it for me and it's a challenge much of the time to get what I want, but I love the results i eventually get I keep using it. As for other aspects of life and AI I don't use it. Don't need Siri, Alexa and any other AI telling me my actions when I can figure that out on my own. The only way AI will be able to help me with any chores is if i get an actual robot to do them for me, LOL

Don't worry too much, people. I am sure that the A.I. robots, or maybe the Apes, will take over soon and we won't have to worry about anything every again.

"I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do laundry and dishes."

Now now, let's be fair here. AI is not going to stop you from creating art or writing. It's just going to stop you from making a living doing it. Or much of anything else for that matter.
