Doesn't this give you the warm and fuzzies?

Now now, let's be fair here. AI is not going to stop you from creating art or writing. It's just going to stop you from making a living doing it. Or much of anything else for that matter.
It's pretty much killed my husband's livelihood. He's a freelance musician and in the amount of time he writes music, AI does it in more than half the time. It depresses the life out of him.

I can relate to that since i was a musician. I have seen/'heard some amazing songs that I later found out were created by AI in mere minuites. I work in retail management and if the company ever goes with AI robots, I won't have any employees to manage, LOL (pros and cons on that one)

Interesting times, in the "Ancient Chinese Curse" sort of way. There was someone commenting on a Quora thread the other day that we really aren't going to need migrant workers to pick fruits and vegetables - farm equipment is being made these days that can determine when fruit is ripe and is capable of picking it without bruising it. Previously only crops that could stand bruising and still be sold could be mechanically harvested.

The question is going to be is mankind capable of coming up with an economic system that is capable of efficiently creating and distributing goods when the majority of the work doesn't require humans. Our current system requires that for you to sell something, somebody has to be capable of giving you something you want for it. If they can't produce anything you want, they can't do that, and you're stuck with goods people want but can't buy. That's referred to as "A Depression"

I'm sure we would all like to produce art and music, and writing without the need for somebody paying for it. Just the joy of creating things is repayment enough if you aren't worried about food, housing, or medical care.

We aren't there. We need to get there, or what AI is going to do is crash the world economy.

The problem is that mankind is still expanding, especially in Asia. In China there is supposed to be nil unemployment, and I guess their government is very good at finding people something to do (even if it isn't very productive) but in a lot of other countries, especially India and parts of the old Dutch East Indies and French Indo-China, it is causing a lot of social unrest and resentment at people who have jobs. You have a well educated and trained workforce, but no jobs for them and no prospects, so they get very antsy at those who sitll have jobs, or the politicians who tell them there are currently no vacancies and then cut their benefits because there are too many people claiming them.
And then you have lots of migrant workers, determined to leave trouble areas where the prospects of life, let alone jobs, are not very high, or the 'econimic migrants' who have no hope of a job where they are and come to places like Britain because they are told it is better here (and often given a helping hand by other developed countries along the way who are just glad to see the back of them!). What happens then? They are a related problem for where there is no clear answer because a lot of time, money and precious resources is spent catching and sending them back (if one can!) only for them to simply try again.

“Supposed to be” are the operative words. I have never trusted the Chinese government as far as I can throw them. A lot of what they tell the West is propaganda. They will tell you one thing but behind closed doors, it’s another matter entirely …
