Otto's Weird Music Thread

I've been a fan of weird music since even before the days of Dr Demento, because frankly a lot of the songs on his show are older than he is. In any case I am quite happy to say the tradition of making weird music hasn't subsided any, and Weird Al, the patron saint of it, isn't the only current practitioner.

Which brings me to Nerd Core. Nerd Core is a kind of rapping that is usually based on video games. Two of the biggest names in it currently if you will are The Stupendium and Dan Bull.

The Stupendium is an interesting character. They came out as gender fluid, I'll post the video they did that in later, and their preferred pronouns if you haven't guessed are they/them.

They do some videos about how they put these video's together including video editing, and a studio they do the practical effects in. Along with the Youtube channel they have a Patreon account, a setup a lot of creatives are using these days.

I want to start out with one I posted over at VoD, which is relevant to the Meta AI discussion I started in another thread. This song is about a video game that depicts a Dystopian future where corporations run the planet. Because we let them, of course. Just like we seem to be doing now...

When guiding the hand of the market
If it's holding a cheque or a gun
The fingers go deep in your pockets
And you can live under the thumb

You seem so surprised, what did you expect?
We're thinking outside of that box that you checked
The terms were presented in full to inspect
You scrolled to the end just to get to "Accept"

That was pretty intense, it's always been remarkable to me how much more violence is acceptable than sex.

Eyes painted over closed eyelids are always weird, I've seen that a couple of times.

Reminds me somewhat of Spike Jones, and probably about the same era. It's a shame we only had black and white in those days, I'd like to see what those suits looked like in color :sneaky:

Oh golly gosh yes you are going back a long way. And you are in the right era, the 1950's.

Here's a nother... unforgettable classic from that decade...

Speaking of Painted on eyes... There are DJ's on Youtube doing mashups of music videos, two of the ones with the biggest followers are DJ Cummerbund and Bill McClintock. Here's one of DJ Cummerbunds...

A very old quote regarding violent porn, cant remember the source:
Brutal violence and murder is widely accepted, even worshiped if men (preferable uniformed) doing it to other men. But don’t you dare to bring nudes into the picture.

After stumbling over a damn violent Anime clip on Youtube (fountains of blood, mutilation, murder) I did some research on the Anime and found an interesting bit on Quora.
Question: My son is 13, can I let him watch this Anime?
Answer: There are not much strong words and there is no nudity. The violence he already should know from video games so it should be OK to let him watch it.

Seriously? “Strong words” and nudity are worse then chopped of legs and arms?

A little deeper down the Japanese music rabbit hole

OK, now THAT definitely belongs on the weird song thread. Sort of what it looks like when a Japanese all girl band does their take on the Sex Pistols.

And it is all a stage act, I know bald caps when I see them ;)

I'm having trouble finding anything on them though, Bis appeared to have started out as a three person Scottish band, how did it morph to this?

And translating some of the comments, there appears to have been a reason for the song, but damned if I can tease it out of Duck-Duck-Go.

Lol the Scottish one and this one are probably two different things. Here's a wiki page I think, though there appear to be 2 different Japanese bands with the same name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bis_(Japanese_idol_group)

As far as I know BIS started as Brand-new Idol Shit, kind of the original anti-idol group. Some members (except the founding members) gave up soon because the group was not idol enough for them (Dont know what they did expect given the name) so they re-started as BIS and, after several more re-starts they seem to be back at BiSH now.

Regarding mura mura (as far as I understood mura mura means megahorny) officially it’s about the mindset of a female stalker. My theory is that there is more about it (at least for the bald caps and head shaving scene). It seems that at that time there was a big scandal in the japanese idol industry. One idol was was photographed leaving a cinema together with a boy. Holding hands!!!!! Big scandal! Of course she was kicked out of her group. As an apology she published a video of herself shaving her head bald, begging for forgiveness.

Another one from the rabbit hole
Edit: English subtitles, switch them on ;)

Feuerschwanz is amanzing :p and some of their lyrics are really great (Schubsetanz, Metnotstand im Märchenland). They should do english versions of those songs.
