Otto's Weird Music Thread

A little history of a selected part of the rabbit hole.

And since he mentioned BiS - STUPiG in his video :p

Feuerschwanz is amanzing :p and some of their lyrics are really great (Schubsetanz, Metnotstand im Märchenland). They should do english versions of those songs.
I don't know about the English part, I don't think the song would have the same impact. I think part of the reason I like German groups singing metal in German is that the language tends to be guttural and it sounds better with that kind of music. I feel that way about Rammstein also. "Du Hast" in English just doesn't have the same impact.

And Feuershwanz does throw some English in when they think it warrants it. Bezerkermode for example is partially in English.

Thanks for that "This Exists" video, it explained a lot. Honestly, while I have always enjoyed music, and most types of it, there are only a few I tend to find less interesting, I've never taken the time to study it past the required "Music Appreciation" classes long ago which generally only covered music nobody was interested in except the teacher

If one doesn't understand the cultural significance behind a certain genre of music though, one really doesn't understand what one is listening to. Which is what the last part of that "This Exists" video was about. You can't create an anti-idol Japanese group without really understanding Japanese culture, and that probably goes to listening to one also.

True, and, aside of the acoustic look and feel, I guess translating Feuerschwanz is especially hard, because… “Schubsetanz” for instance. Not really a German word, its just a funny depiction of an aggressive form of pogo dance. How to translate that? Pushing each other dance?

With Japanese it is even worse. Most of the time the translations, especially the official ones, dont make much sense.

But, thanks to “Learning Japanese with Babymetal” I got the one or other joke.

Back to The Stupendium. This guy's production values are simply amazing, and ya know, I don't really think they are worried about being replaced by AI.

And this is an hour long clip about putting together the set for this. It's pretty interesting, but you're probably going to want to jump around, an hour is kind of a much ;)
