I'm coming late to this party. I'm from Gen X, so I grew up watching the original "Speed Racer" cartoons as a carpet-crawler in daycare, which I guess is 'proto-anime'? (That and "Starship Yamato", which I never did see...)

Anyway, "Speed Racer" has a special place in my heart. My last thought as I die will probably be of the sound effect of the jumping Mach 5! (Or maybe the "bionic boing" sound effect from "The Six Million Dollar Man"--boy, was cyborg tech ever cheep back then!) SR was my intro to the ludicrous over-the-top storytelling and crap-ass stylized animation of Japan.

Neat to see "Heavy Metal" mentioned here, although I don't think it was a very good movie. (John Candy as Den?! REALLY?!?!?) Most of its animation techniques had been done better and earlier by Ralph Bakshi. (Check out "Wizards" or "Fire and Ice", which out-Taarnas the Taarna from "Heavy Metal"! And as for a killer soundtrack, it's hard to top Bakshi's "American Pop".)

Only later did I discover Studio Ghibli stuff, which rivalled Disney for quality storytelling and art. And of course, "Akira"--both the manga and the movie--which were stunning works of visual media.

But let's get down to brass tacks. We're talking Japanese anime here, and there is one ("There can be only One") next to which all others pale in comparison:

In Urotsukidoji II: Legend of the Demon Womb (there are 4 movies), the the Harvest of Naked Women appears TWICE -- once at 0:01:14 and again at 1:09:58 (very brief). Fun times! This series has the most fucks of anime, I think!
