This site allows webp uploads, it's a newer format, I think Google sponsors it. It might be a Safari issue again... (searching web)

Yep, older Safari Versions don't support it.

When Safari Added WebP Support​


The timeline reveals the core issue:
  • Safari 13 and earlier: No WebP support whatsoever
  • Safari 14 (2020): First WebP support introduced
  • macOS Big Sur requirement: This means users on macOS Catalina (10.15) or earlier cannot view WebP images, even with Safari 14 installed.
