What's your device uptime?

I'm guessing we're mostly geeks here, so...

Today my phone goofed and I had to restart it. But incidentally just about two days ago I checked what's the uptime, and it was at 7096 hours. I'm not great at updating or other maintenance...

But hey, today I did update my main PC, which was at 29 days uptime, so I'm still a somewhat responsible adult.

Which device? I have an iphone, an ipad, 3 Worstations, and, oh yeah, the server this site is on which is probably the thing that has run the longest without a reboot. The Apple stuff reboots itself after IOS updates, and those are pretty frequent. Windows too, last update was a week ago with the usual forced and unasked for reboot. The server on the other hand is running Linux which does not need a reboot after every %*#&@ing update, and that one is:

517 days 21 hours 47 minutes

Would be interesting to hook up into some always-on embedded device that normally doesn't have any interface, and check if it reboots itself occasionally or just runs until there's an electricity cutout or it rusts into dust.

Either way, forced updates and reboots are something that make me flip out more than probably anything else. This particular machine is on Fedora and it just pops up a 'yo, wanna update m8?' bubble and I'm like nah, I'm good for another month or so, thanks, and it buggers off. Today after the update it blipped with an update to F43, but yeaaa no, I'll wait until they sort out the kinks. No rush.

If a system file doesn't need updating the major reason for a reboot is memory leaks, and boy does Windows have those. I've had to reboot the phone and tablet on occasion due to Internet connection issues, aside from that I rarely have to reboot Apple devices outside of O/S updates. Windows, particularly when doing 3D work or Adobe stuff, yeah, memory leaks are usually the issue. And it isn't necessarily the OS itself with the issues, the applications can cause it.

It's a particular PITA with Windows because I usually have long processes running with it like renders.

Yea Win itself isn't too bad when it comes to memory leaks. Back when I was still using XP and 7, I often had uptime about a month.

If only MS didn't clog up all the memory with spyware and bullshit, it could be a pretty nice system.

I am not a big phone person, basically wake up alarms, some calls and texts and some work stuff, so it's usually off. My PC in on 24/7 and I always push off any updates as long as I can. I will reboot it every week or so just to clear out any memory and processes.

I just hate mobile phones, and i as retired a few months back, never use mine now, yet i charge it each day, as the battery is crap, so use it mostly for taking photos when out, my provider said i need to upgrade to 5G, and here you can buy this phone for X number of £ every month, other wise we turn the signal off, i say F them, man got along just fine before mobile phones?
