In case you missed it, https://archiveofourown.org/ is down due to a "security incident" and they expect it to take 2-4 weeks to get it back to running. Info on their BlueSky.
This might be related to the recent PHP exploit, or just in general to the wave of hacks all over.
But it sounds a bit suspicious, if you ask me. AO3 claims no data at all was deleted; so either the hack wasn't too serious, or they have backups ready. If that's the case, why would it take weeks to restore? Does that add up, or is there something else?
Maybe I'm too deep into my conspiracy theories, but that sounds like a much more catastrophic failure - either hardware, or a concentrated targeted attack, or maybe some legal issues. I wouldn't be surprised if AO3 was in a similar situation like Motherless was a while ago. Remember that to an outsider, 'a collection of fictional works' may look exactly the same as 'a dark web for real rapists and cannibals'.
Or maybe their systems were just so outdated and this gave them a kick to finally do something about it...
