An anime for people who are less interested in action and fights but in a fascinating story. Imagine Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr. style) would have been a young girl in Ming dynasty China which grew up in a brothel and learned from a former healer of the imperator.

After graduation Gabriel, model student of the angel school, is sent to earth to learn how to guide humans (Hell does the same with young demons by the way, those to learn how to corrupt humans). On earth she quickly becomes a video game addict and a bad, bad little angel. That bad that even the demons sometimes wonder if she is a devil.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Another of those rather quiet anime that are more about story telling than action. The story starts where this kind of stories usually ends. After fighting for 10 years the hero group kills the demon lord and ends the war. The MC of the story is a young elf girl magician (just 1000 years young) and already in the first scenes there is a hint of one of the main topics of the anime: When the heroes disband one of them say that this is a strange feeling after the long time they traveled together Frieren, the elf girl, confused: “What do you mean? It was only 10 years, we just met”.
When, 50 years later, she pays her former comrades a visit Himmel, the leader of the group, dies short after. Next who dies is Heiter, the booze and women loving priest of the group, but before he dies he manages to dump Fern, a little girl with magical abilities, on Frieren who takes her reluctantly as pupil.
Since humans grow up within days (at least from Frieren’s point of view) within just a few episodes baby Fern becomes mama Fern who takes care of Frieren
Fights are rather rare but also rather intense.

By the way, all characters in Frieren have German words as names that are somehow descriptive:
Frieren = to be cold
Fern = faraway
Himmel = Heaven
Heiter = funny
and so on
This charming young lady’s name is Übel what has a lot of translation (bad, evil, sick, nausating…..) but in her case I would say the correct translation is: Bad news.

Baki – A martial arts anime that makes even the most stupid 80th Hong Kong kungfu movie look absolutely reasonable.
Fortunately somebody took it upon himself to explain Baki logic.
