Goodbye 3Delight

This may be common knowledge and I’m stating the obvious…

Daz released their Studio 4.24.0.4 update today. As promised, the 3Delight render engine has been removed.

Daz stated they did not renew their license.

I didn’t notice any other changes.

I have never used 3delight for any serious rendering. I tried it a few times when i first started using DS, but never liked the results. I only learned DS because I wasn't happy with the firefly rendering engine in Poser and discovered Luxrender with the reality plugin for DS. Switched to Iray when it came out

Quite a few oldtimers that are not happy about this decision on the DAZ forums

Getting rid of 3Delight had no impact on me either.

Just interesting that Daz warned it was going away on Dec 29 and there was an update in IM this morning.

Guess the next update in IM will be the finished version of the new Daz Studio.

Yeah, I have seen DAZ do a lot of wishy washy things in the past, so i am not surprised

No loss for me either as far as I can tell, but they have been warning for weeks on their store page. Little orange banner kept annoying me. They also posted how to back up the last version of Daz if you wanted to keep 3Delight. They being Daz themselves btw.

The version of 3Delight DAZ Studio uses is antique, the previous shading system is incompatible with the current version.

And the version DAZ uses was a decent version for it's time... which was around 2008. I imagine it was easier going to IRay rather than dealing with everybody whining about having to redo their materials if DAZ had updated the 3Delight render engine instead.

I have not even been tempted to render anything, particularly anything with hair, in 3Delight since around 2015. Which by pure happenstance is when DAZ added the IRay engine...

And people are still whining about 3Delight 10 years later?
